Lily loves Painted Desert Sheep

Meet Lily, she’s a Blue Heeler/Border Collie cross that we adopted from a local shelter.

She also goes by silly Lily and Lily Lu……..

She has always liked “helping” us move the horses around…………she thinks herding them to and from the pasture is the best part of her day, so when I saw that there were some local sheep herding classes I thought it might be fun to take her to a few, I know nothing about herding or sheep.

Meet the girls, they are Painted Desert Sheep……..

So Monday nights Lily and I head off to herding class.  The first two classes the sheep are actually inside a wire pen and the dog works them from the outside of the wire pen……that would be so the sheep don’t immediately lose a limb or worse 🙁 ………… To my surprise Lily did exceptionally well and it wasn’t complete pandamoium.

This last Monday was her third lesson and Lindsay came along with me to take some pictures.  It was the first time that she was loose in the round pen with the sheep. I’m happy to report that all of the sheep left with all of their limbs and most of their wool.
